Artist Statement:

Kimberly Beck is a fine artist working from Chicago and her studio at in Michigan City, Indiana.

A native of northern California, Kimberly Beck grew up in a rural community immersed in the natural world. After earning her undergraduate degree in English Literature at The University of Michigan, she studied drawing and illustration at The California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA, and specialized in drawing birds and animals, working in watercolor and pencil. She began a career in illustration, creating art for posters, greeting cards, t-shirts and even umbrellas for The Nature Company and other print companies, selling her work nationally.

Now, as an oil painter painting, her work combines the foundation of good design, direct observation, and a sensitive palette with a passion for recording the natural world. She paints regularly from life at the Palette & Chisel Academy of Art in Chicago, and paints figurative and floral subjects as well as the birds for which she is best known.

A Signature member of Artists for Conservation, she is a devoted bird-watcher and her paintings reflect personal experiences she has had interacting with birds in the field.  In January 2018,  her work was part of a group exhibition at the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, Indiana, entitled “Birds & Bees,” seeking to celebrate and bring awareness to the environmental plight of these creatures.

Kimberly’s avian-themed paintings have been juried into the prestigious international “Birds in Art” exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.  Two of her paintings were chosen for the Museum’s National Tour.  Her work has been selected to the Richeson 75 International Competitions, and exhibitions by the American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America.

She is currently represented by Fine Line Designs in Door County, Wisconsin, Lake Forest Frame & Design in Lake Forest, Illinois and will be represented by J Petter Gallery in Douglas, Michigan beginning in the Spring of 2019.   To see more of Kimberly Beck’s artwork, please go to her website:  www.kimberlybeck-art.com.
